"Do you remember what you did?"

Melanie is a super short psychological 'horror' Visual Novel that tells Melanie's story. Playing more into the feeling of uneasiness and psychological disturbance rather than straight out "horror", Melanie sets out to do nothing than tell someone's story. Things aren't always what they appear to be...

Word Count: 964

Created, with love, throughout September 2021, for the 3rd Annual Spooktober Visual Novel Jam, hosted by DevTalk, by Mark Alan Knapp Jr. and Melanie.

P.S. Melanie asks that you DON'T play with the "imnotsorry.txt" file. Don't even download it. Disregard it. It's a virus.

Probably.

I really loved the style of this game! Wow, the little touches like how you can't rewind, save or X out, and how the game full quits on you with the "wrong answer"... All these little things did a great job at uniquely working with the message and vibe of the game.

Thank you so much- very appreciated! I've always been a fan of doing this like that. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it's enjoyable every now and then! Glad you enjoyed!

Frustrating...but clever. And good choice of names; the game itself is rather melancholy, if I'm reading into it correctly—pun fully intended. Darkness is always welcome, and always will be, with me.

Thank you for playing "our" game- very appreciated <3 Glad you enjoyed it as well! :)

Hello! I honestly found it funny when Melanie would eject you out of the game with her various response but I did eventually get what was happening. It was sad and impressive to be able to tell it in such short words though I am struggling to get the last screenshot...

Hello- thank you so much for playing my game! I'm glad you enjoyed my short little story hehe :) Now, while Melanie would NOT like me to tell you this...

In the "game" folder that looks like the image attached- that's where you should put the text file. It's a bit different to get to on Mac VS PC, so if you're still having trouble, let me know your OS and I'll help out some more!

I don't know if I did it right. Nothing changed after I tried putting the imnotsorry.txt in the game file. Definitely didn't get that last screenshot!
ETA: Finally got it!!!!

Glad you got it to work! Just a little Easter egg :)

Edit : I didn't expect the game to make me very sad

This was great! I didn't think such a short VN would make me sad! There's so many questions though! I hope to see more from you soon!

Thank you so much for covering my game BackgroundN0ise! It really means a lot! Glad you enjoyed it! :)

Did u make this alone?

Hi Hai! Yes, I did. I used royalty free assets for the visual elements, and wrote the story and music myself :)

Uhmm. This is the first day of using Ren'py so after playing your game.. may I study how you wrote your scripts?

100%, please feel free to! I am by no means an expert coder, so some of what I've done can be rewritten better, but please feel free to reverse engineer and dissect what I have! Also, please feel free to send me any games you make, I'd love to see them! :)
